Chile - Exploring the Altiplano
Chile is one the most diverse countries in the world, with the 5,000 meter Atacama desert in the North, the vast landscapes of Patagonia in the South, and the mysterious atoll of Rapa Nui 2,000 miles across the Pacific. Evidence of prehistoric and pre-Columbian civilizations can be found in the cliff petroglyphs of the Altiplano, the circular foundations of Tulor trader dwellings in Atacama, and the mysterious Moai of Easter Island. The evolution of Shamanistic, Pagan, and then Christian culture over thousands of years makes Chile a unique anthropological experience for travelers and scientists alike. |
